Schefsick, Amanda (14 July 1880 - 7 Aug. 1942)

Funeral services for Mrs. John Schefsick, 62, who died at her home Friday, were held Monday afternoon. At the home services, held at 1:30, Miss Leota Brandt sang, "Come Ye Disconsolate." These were followed at 2:00 o’clock by services in Christ Evangelical Lutheran church, which were also conducted by the Rev. J. Brandt.

A quartette from the Young People’s choir, composed of the Misses Ruth and Violet Boss, Elsie Miller and Dorothy Kieser, accompanied by Miss Brandt, sang, "Why Do You Mourn Departing Friends" and "Nearer My God to Thee."

Internment was made in the Dorchester cemetery with the following men acting as pallbearers: William Bogaard, Fred Bobbe, Seth Barker, George Le Claire, Carl Rice and Francis Scherer.

The many beautiful floral offerings were carried by Mrs. Lottie Enman, Mrs. Fred Bobbe, Mrs. Carl Rice, the Misses Raphaella McCabe and Ella Soefker and the following ladies of the Lutheran Ladies Aid: Mrs. H. J. Amacher, Mrs. Arnold Laack, Mrs. H. J. Cornelius, Mrs. Walter Kuenzi, Mrs. Chet Knight and Mrs. Clarence Gosse.

Mrs. Schefsick was born Amanda Gutwasser, July 14, 1880 in Mequon, Wis. At the age of 3 she came to Dorchester with her parents and lived there until her marriage to John Schefsick, July 10, 1917, in Eau Claire.

After their marriage, they lived on a farm two miles north and one mile east of Abbotsford, in the Town of Holton until two and a half years ago when they moved to the village.

Never having children of their own, they made a home for Charles Flick, who lived with them like a son until he was 22 years old.

At various times Mr. and Mrs. Schefsick helped in the education of children.

For the past two years Mrs. Schefsick was afflicted with arthritis. In April the past year she underwent a major operation but was able to be around after that and only the past week and a half was she confined to her bed. Death came Friday morning at 4:30 o’clock.

Mrs. Schefsick, before her marriage was a member of the Lutheran choir at Dorchester, Wis. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran church here and of the Ladies’ Aid.

Surviving are her husband, her mother, Mrs. Bertha Gutwasser, Dorchester; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hahn, Eau Claire; Mrs. Max Vircks, Dorchester; a brother, Arthur Gutwasser, Chippewa Falls; three nieces and four nephews.

Among relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Anna Hahn, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Max Vircks, and Mrs. Bertha Gutwasser, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gutwasser, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gutwasser, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gutknecht, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schefsick, and Frank Schefsick, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Velma Carol, La Crosse and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Beil, Colby, Wis.

Included among the many friends who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flick and Mr. and Mrs. Barney Voelker, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Semrad, Milwaukee; Mrs. Anna Lieders, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Hundt, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. William Kuehl; Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Byries, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. William Monroe, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad and Mr. and Mrs. John Habeck, Dorchester, Wis.
