McMillan, Barbara (13 MAY 1944)

Miss Barbara McMillan became the bride of Ensign Anton Horvatin at an impressive ceremony performed by Father Brockman, at St. Barnard’s parsonage, Abbotsford, Saturday afternoon, May 13, at 3:30 o’clock.

The young couple was attended by Miss Shirley DeWitt, Bloomer, a friend, and Miss Myra McMillan, sister of the bride, Chicago, and Frank Hardt and Peter McMillan, brother of the bride.

The bride was attired in a white silk suit with an orchid flower corsage.

A wedding dinner was served at the Woodland Hotel at 6:00 o’clock at which 55 guests were seated. The table was beautifully decorated in red, white and blue flowers, with a two-tier white wedding cake crowned with a white bell.

A dance was held in the evening at the Merry Ol’ Gardens, south of Withee, to which a large number of friends and relatives were invited.

The young couple left that evening for a short honeymoon in the northern part of the state, returning Monday evening, leaving shortly afterwards for Chicago where they will visit the groom’s parents.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. N. McMillan of this city. She graduated from the Owen high school with the class of 1942, and attended school at Eau Claire last year. She has been employed at the Western Condensing Company until her marriage.

Ensign Anton Horvatin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Horvatin, Sr., Chicago, Ill., formerly of the town of Green Grove. He graduated from the Owen schools in 1942 and enlisted in the naval reserve, successfully completing his course and being commissioned an Ensign in the naval reserves on Wednesday, May 3. He will be stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas, as an instructor for the next six months, where they will make their home.

They will continue to Texas following their visit at Chicago, as the 15-day furlough which Mr. Horvatin has been enjoying is about to expire. The many friends of the young couple extend to them their best wishes for a happy wedded life.
