Staniec, Clara Mary (14 May 1932 - 12 March 2009)

Clara M. Staniec, age 76, of Thorp, formerly of Lublin, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Thorp Funeral Home in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Cemetery, in Lublin. Visitation was held at Thorp Funeral Home on Monday, March 16, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. rosary service. Visitation was also held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until time of service.

Clara Mary Markowski was born on May 14, 1932 in the Town of Withee, rural Thorp, to Ted and Martha (Lubrant) Markowski. She was raised on the family farm and received her education at Riverside Country School. Clara was united in marriage to Leon Staniec on April 16, 1951 in Medford, WI. She worked as a cook at the Lublin Elementary School and later as a cook at the Thorpedo in Thorp, when it first opened. Clara was also a homemaker and farmed with her husband in the Town of Roosevelt until retiring and moving into Thorp in 1995. She had many interests, including gardening, flowers (especially raising pansies), baking cupcakes, cooking and collecting salt and paper shakers and cookie jars.

She is survived by her husband, Leon Staniec, Sr. of Thorp; five children: Sharon Staniec of Thorp, Leon Jr. "Leo" (Linda) Staniec of Thorp, Shirley (Terry) Wright of Chippewa Falls, Sandy Brecht of Greenwood, and Michael (Dawn) Staniec of Thorp; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Leona Cichocke of Wausau; one bother Raymond (Norie) Markowski of Tucson, AZ; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Julie, in October of 1971; one son in law, David Brecht; and one brother, Edward Markowski.
