Daines, Clifford (13 Feb. 1907 - 8 Dec. 1961)

Clifford Daines of Owen, a former Colby resident, age 54, was found dead in the kitchen of his home at Owen shortly after 3:00 o’clock Friday afternoon. Robert Lulloff, Clark county coroner, reported that Daines died of a bullet wound in the right temple, apparently self-inflicted. A .22 calibre pistol was found beneath his body.

Authorities were notified by Mrs. Daines when she returned from work and found her husband’s body on the kitchen floor.

Mr. Daines had been employed at the Western Condensing Company plant at Owen. He had been laid off temporarily from his job but company officials said he headed a list of employees slated for recall to duty as soon as business conditions warranted his return.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Hoepper and Kraut Funeral Home at Owen, Rev. Ralph Claybough officiating, and internment was made in Riverside cemetery.
