Barski, John, Sr. (27 DEC 1862 - 10 MAY 1951)

Mr. John Barski, Sr., passed away on Thursday morning, May 10, 1951 of a heart ailment at his farm home east of Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1862, near Lodz Poland and had reached the age of 88 years, 4 months and 13 days.

He came to this country from his native Poland in 1886 at the age of 23 and for a time settled in the eastern states of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, where he was employed in the coal mines. He had also lived in Illinois and Oklahoma before coming to the locality of Thorp, where for the past 50 years he was engaged in farming.

He is survived by his wife, Paulina; four sons, Frank of Fond du Lac, Wis.; Tom of Chicago, Ill.; Edward of Stillwater, Minn.; and John Jr. at home. One son, George, preceded him in death in 1948, and one son, Walter, passed away in 1920. He also has two step-children, Evelyn (Mrs. Joe Wojtkiewicz and Adam Novak, both of Chicago, Ill.

Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church, Lublin, Wis., on Saturday, May 12. He was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Rev. J. F. Palaszewski officiated at the services, assisted by the Rev. Casmer Krysinski.

Pallbearers were Frank Hoffman, Frank Jasinek, Sr., Joe Dobrzanski, Stanley Hucker, Joe Jarocki and Peter Wnek.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral of John Barski, Sr., were Mr. Frank Barski of Fond du Lac, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Tom Barski of Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Barski of Stillwater, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wojtkiewicz and son, Gerald of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. LaVerne Steele of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. J. Laniewski and son Felix of Chippewa Falls, Wis.
