Volk, Mary (13 May 1879 - 19 Feb. 1951)

Mrs. Frank Volk, 71, of the Town of Hendren, Willard, passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Stremikis, on Monday, February 19, 1951 at 8:30 p. m. following a lingering illness.

Funeral services were conducted at the Holy Faqmily Catholic Church in Willard on Friday, February 23, 1951 with a Solemn Requiem Mass at 10:00 a. m. with Rev. Augustine Svete, as celebrant, Rev. J. Novak, Greenwood, as deacon and Rev. Lee Novitt, Spencer as subdeacon. She was laid to rest in the parish cemetery.

Mary Zitnik was born in Yugoslavia on May 13, 1879 to Mr. and Mrs. Anton Zitnik. She came to the United States at the age of 22 years and then to Pueblo, Colorado. While there she was united in marriage to Frank Volk in June, 1901. Later they moved to their present farm in Willard which at that time was only wild land.

She is survived by ten children: Mrs. Harold (Mary) Hunter, Joliet, Ill; Mrs. James (Frances) Matousek, Hinsdale, Ill; Mrs. Charles (Emma) Machar, Lyons, Ill; Mrs. Jerome (Anne) Stremikis, Willard; Rudolph, Willard; Joseph, Minneapolis; Albert, Joliet, Ill; Gabriel, Lyon, Ill.; Edward, Texas; and John, Stevens Point. Also her husband, and twelve grandchildren and one brother, Victor Zitnik of Pueblo, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mrs. Anna Hribar and one son Frank, Jr.

Pallbearers were: Ludvig Perushek Sr., John Pernic, John Champa, Frank Francel, Sr., and Joseph Hribar and Joseph Tolaney.

A general rosary was recited at her home Thursday night.

Flowers were taken care of by the Society members.

She was a member of the following Societies: Christian Mother, Mary of Perpetual Help KSKJ and the Third Order of St. Francis.

Those from away who attended the rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hunter, Joliet, Ill.; Mrs. James Matousek and daugher, Hinsdale, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mackan and sons, Lyons, Ill.; Joseph Volk, Minneapolis; Gabriel Volk, Lyons, Ill.; and John Volk, Stevens Point.
