Jellish, Joan R. (22 June 1924 - 17 Feb. 2003)

Joan R. Jellish, 78, a former Marshfield resident, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2003, at the Colonial Center in Colby where she had resided since July, 2002. Joan was born on June 22, 1924 in Ashland to Edward (Agnes LeRoy) Woodhead. Joan attended grade school in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School in 1942. Joan was married to Louis Jellish in July of 1947. They divorced. Joan then moved to Chicago in the late 1950s and began working at Eli’s, a well-known Chicago restaurant. She later met Justin McCarthy in Chicago and they both enjoyed over 20 wonderful years together. Joan was close to Justin’s daughter Denise and her children: Sherri, Becky and Joey. She resided in Chicago until 1991 when she moved to Marshfield and resided with her sister Joyce Chase. They loved each other dearly and had great times together. Joan’s greatest joy was her cooking and having family dinners together. Her cooking was famous and she became know to her family as the "Pasta Mama." She also had a great love for her pets and other animals.

Joan is survived by her children: Connie Putrus of Loyal, and grandchildren Vincent (Dana Schoonover) of Loyal and Brad (Stacey) Putrus of Marshfield; Louis (Jannette) Jellish of Pineville, Kentucky and grandchildren Julie and Eddie, both of Pineville, Ky.; Wayne (Mary) Jellish of Marshfield and grandchildren Aaron (fiancee Angie Anderson) Jellish of Marshfield and Hydi Zaster of Hawaii. Joan is also survived by a sister Joyce Chase of Marshfield and great-nephews Craig and Kevin Trickle.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: James and Earl Woodhead. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 24 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield. Mary Castner will be the organist and William Allen will be the vocalist.

Private burial will take place at a later time in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland. Rev. Mark Krueger will officiate.

Family will received relatives and friends on Monday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

The Jellish family and her sister would like to thank all the staff at the Colonial Center in Colby, Wisconsin for the wonderful care Joan was given and "the treatment" Joan gave back to the staff.
