Depa, Tillie (4 JUN 1950)

On Sunday, June 4th, 1950, at St. Fidelis Church in Chicago, Miss Tillie Depa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marek Depa of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), became the bride of Mr. Henry Filipiak of Chicago.

The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Victor Depa. She was attired in a white satin and lace gown and wore a short veil with a beaded crown. Her bouquet consisted of white roses, lilies of the valley and two orchids.

First bridesmaid was Miss Victoria Depa, sister of the bride, who wore a pink taffeta dress with lace peplum. Mary Vunjak and Delores Onak, friends of the bride, wore yellow and aqua dresses with lace peplums. Junior bridesmaid was Florence Biedran, niece of the groom, who wore a green and white taffeta dress. The maid of honor was Wanda Korzeniewski, friend of the bride, who wore a blue and white taffeta dress. All dresses were the same style as the bride’s. Their bouquets consisted of red roses, their headpieces were also of red roses.

The groom was attended by Henry Kmieciak, as best man, Ray Krusinski and Julian Jura. The little ring bearers was Johnny Biedran, nephew of the groom. They all wore tuxedos and white carnations.

A reception took place at the Harmony Hall, where supper was served to about 300 guests.

The bride and groom received notable publicity by being the first couple to receive their marriage license for the month of June in Chicago. Their photographs appeared in the leading Chicago papers and were also filmed by a television network.

The groom matriculated at the Worsham College of Mortuary Science, graduating in June 1948. He has since received his state embalmer’s and funeral director’s license in the state of Illinois.

The young couple left for a two week honeymoon at Eagle River, Wis. They also spent a week visiting her folks here. They will make their home in Chicago where they are both employed.
