Opelt, Kathleen Rose (Marriage - 20 February 1971)

Miss Kathleen Rose Opelt became the bride of Donald George Herbel on Saturday, February 20, at 2:30 p.m. in a double ring ceremony performed in St. Mary’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Charles D. Brady. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Opelt of Rt. 3, Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. George Herbel of Mesa, Ariz.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white velvet gown trimmed with Venise lace and featuring a high neckline and long, lady-bishop sleeves. Her matching chapel-length mantilla veil was edged with venise lace. She carried a cascade bouquet of white pompon mums and trailing ivy.

Mrs. Patricia Eisentraut was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Janet Opelt and Marilyn Anding of Eau Claire. They wore formal gowns of romance silk organza and taffeta styled with high necklines trimmed with Venise lace and long, lady-bishop sleeves. Each carried a cascade bouquet of blue carnations with white pompon mums.

Terry Becker served as bestman. Groomsmen were Dennis Opelt and Dennis Hardwick of Humbird. Ushers wee James Resong and Tom Opelt. Brad Hardwick of Humbird was the ringbearer and Jennie Eisentraut was the flowergirl.

“A Wedding Prayer” and the “Song of Mary” were sung by Kendall Smith.

A 4:30 dinner for 200 guess was served at the Wildcat Inn west of Neillsville, where an evening reception was also held.

The bride, a 1967 graduate of Neillsville High School, graduated in 1970 from Mid-State Technical School in Marshfield. She has been employed in Neillsville as a medical assistant. The groom, a 1965 graduate of Neillsville High School who served four years in the Air force, is presently attending Eau Claire Technical Institute.
