Rottier, Anna J. (1924? - 7 FEB 1950)

Mrs. Anna Joyce Rottier, 25, a Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) resident of 11 months and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cushing of Hersey, Wis., allowed a Soo Line fright train to run over her early Tuesday morning.

Mrs. Rottier had been undergoing treatments for a nervous condition for sometime.

Her husband, Robert Rottier, 28, day operator at the Soo Line Depot and a World War II casualty, had gone to Milwaukee on Sunday to have his artificial leg adjusted. When he returned a little before midnight Monday, he sound a note. A search of the area around their trailer home on the Sherman Alger property, failed to find her. Rottier then summoned police help.

Track in the snow indicated that Mrs. Rottier had evaded the searchers, it is reported, and shortly before 8 a.m. they found her body on the railroad tracks, about 300 feet behind their trailer home and two blocks east of the depot. Her head and right arm were severed. Examination of the body and clothing indicated she had first attempted to cut her wrists, then when that failed, had sat on the snow bank beside the track until the 2:30 freight train came by.

In the note left she said she "couldn’t stand it any longer." She said she had a good husband, held her husband blameless for the act and indicated she felt inadequate as a mother. She asked that her two children, a three month old baby and a three year old, be cared for an not separated. The note was signed, "Goodbye now."

Rottier said his wife was in good health and apparently good spirits when he left for Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Rottier will be held at Hersey, Wis.
