Marek, Frances G. (17 March 1914 - 19 December 2008)

Frances G. Marek, age 94, of Thorp, passed away at Oakbrook Health & Rehab in Thorp on Friday, December 19, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery, with Frances’ grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Thorp Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary service. Visitation was also held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Frances G. Pabich was born on March 17, 1914, in Chicago, IL, to John and Stella (Sniegowski) Pabich. In 1921, Frances’ family moved to the Thorp area where she received her education at area schools, and was a graduate of Thorp High School. She was united in marriage to Leon Marek on October 22, 1935, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They farmed in the Town of Withee until Leon’s death in 1979, at which time their son, Allen, took over the operation of the farm. Frances moved to Morgan Plaza, in the City of Thorp, in 1995, and resided there until entering Oakbrook Health & Rehab in May of 2007. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, cross-stitching, gardening, cooking, baking and canning.

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its PCCW.

She is survived by five children: Valencia (Edwin) Kolo of Eau Claire, Roman Marek of Mosinee, Sylvester Marek of Wheaton, IL, Ronald (Laura) Marek of West Allis, and Allen (Renee) Marek of Thorp; 13 grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyn Kobylinski of Thorp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon; one granddaughter, Linda Kolo-Nanstad; one daughter-in-law, Carol Marek; one brother, Joseph Pabich; and two sisters: Sophie Marek and Monica Marek.
