Coates, Ella (22 JAN 1885 - 3? AUG 1949)

Ella Borck Coates was born on the 22nd day of January 1885 in the Town of Worden, Clark Co., Wis. on the homestead of Fred Borck and Tina Oseau Borck, her parents. Her childhood and early adult years were spent on this farm and in Seattle, Wash.. She was united in marriage with Henry Coates on Jan. 24, 1917 in Thorp, Wis., and they resided on their farm in the Town of Reseburg until the time of her death.

Her ill health in recent years did not in any way dismay her or deter her in her efforts to be a kind mother, a helping neighbor and a good friend to all who knew her.

Ella Borck Coates is survived by her husband, Henry Coates of Thorp, four children, Ruby (Mrs. Walter Verkuilen) of Thorp, Margie (Mrs. George Badzinski) of Marshfield, Irene (Mrs. Harvey Zettler) of Marshfield, and Henry, Jr. of Thorp; one brother, Arthur Borck of Thorp; three sisters, Lily (Mrs. George Yoder) of Stetsonville, Marge (Mrs. Kenneth Miller) of Seattle, Wash., and Alma (Mrs. Richard Coates) of Thorp and four grandchildren.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Reseburg Congregational Church.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. Myron Glick, pastor of the Congregational Church of Owen, at the Reseburg Church at one o’clock on Saturday, Aug. 6th. Misses Mae and Betty Path of St. Claire, Mich., daughters of the former Sarah Biddle, sang "The Old Rugged Cross: and "Beneath the Cross of Jesus", accompanied by Mrs. Donald Marshall, organist.

Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Wm. H. Krause, Frank Broeren, Louis Rusch, Philip Mattes, John Barth and Cesar Barth.
