Kanter, Herbert Peter (16 Mar. 1897 - 28 Feb. 1959)

Funeral services were held on Monday morning in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, Wisconsin for Herbert Peter Kanter of Unity who died at his home in Unity at the age of 61 years, a heart attack being the cause of his death. Rev. John Pinion officiated and burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Ervin Meyer, Ervin Primeau, Frank Jordan, Fred Loughead, Bernard Tennis, Otto Atcherson. Military rites were held at the graveside. Members of the V.F.W. post of Colby served as a firing squad and color guards.

Mr. Kanter was born on March 16, 1897, in Marshfield. He received his education in the Colby schools. He farmed most of his life and lived in Unity about four years. He married Ella Weller in Colby, Wisconsin on October 20, 1920.

He was a veteran of World War I, past commander and adjutant of the Unity American Legion post and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was well known of his industrious habits, and, being of a congenial disposition, had many friends who were sorry to hear of his death.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Donald of Milwaukee; five grand children; two brothers, Clement Kanter of San Bernadino, Calif.; and Reuben Kanter; seven sisters, Mrs. Alta Kohlbeck of Ada, Mich.; Mrs. Odelia Hassenorhl of Colby; Mrs. Marina Cleary of Watervliet, Mich.; Mrs. Marcella Carberry of Lodi; Mrs. Olivia Zinthefer of Sheboygan; Mrs. Lucine Benjamin of Monterey Park, Calif.; and Mrs. Rosalia Baumgart of Unity, Wis. One son, Norman, and one brother, Rueben, preceded him in death.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kanter and family of Milwaukee, Mrs. Ed Kohlbeck of Ada, Michigan, Mrs. Ed Cleary of Watervliet, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carberry and family of Lodi, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zinthefer and family of Sheboygan, Henry Milesen and Mr. and Mrs. John Kastorff of Fond du Lac, Rudy Zinthefer and son, John Kombs, Mrs. Joe Felhofer, Mrs. Leona Mittiestaedt, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Voelker and daughter, Mrs. Frank Strange, Mrs. Ted Belchler, Mrs. Art Weister, Mrs. Bessie Phillippi, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fuchs, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hasenohrl, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wis.
