CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERS LAST CALL

Chester H. Burgess, a pioneer Clark county farmer, father of Mrs. E. F. Bowen of this city, died at the home of his daughter, Wednesday, Jan. 13th, following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Burgess and wife have been living in retirement the last two years. Since last November, up to which time they made their home with their son, George, in Unity, they have been at the home of their daughter in this city, coming here to spend the winter. He was over eighty-six years of age.

Mr. Burgess was born in Boonville, New York. When eighteen years of age his parents moved to this state. Two years later he returned to New York state and was married, after which he and his wife came to this state to reside. They located near Fond du Lac. In 1869 they moved on to a farm in Clark county and developed it into one of the best in the county. It was sold two years ago.

He was a veteran of the civil war, having served with the Fourth Wisconsin cavalry. Through distinguished service he was promoted to color bearer. He was a member of the Odd Fellows. He leaves his wife and one daughter and one son named in the foregoing paragraphs. The fubneral was held in Unity, Wis.
