Hales, Lesta (5 May 1890 - 11 December 1970)

Funeral services for Mrs. Roy (Lesta) Hales, 80, Rt. 2 Loyal, who died December 11, were held Monday, December 14, at 2 p.m. from the loyal United Methodist Church. The Rev. Conrad Mickelson officiated and burial was made in the Loyal Cemetery.

The former Lesta Miller was born May 5, 1890, in New Providence, Ia. She was educated at Cedar Falls, Ia., teachers’ college and taught school in that state for three years before she was married. Her marriage to Roy Hales took place at Ocheydan, Ia., on August 17, 1910. They lived in Ocheydan four years before moving to the Loyal area in April of 1914. The Hales have resided there for 56 years.

Mrs. Hales was a member of the Loyal United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 264, Royal Neighbors Hope Camp No. 819, and was president of the library board for many years. She had been a member of Royal Neighbors in Iowa and joined the Loyal Camp on October 18, 1920. She was honored for 50-year membership in Hope Camp No. 819 on October 6, 1970.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hales is survived by a son, Myrle Hales, of Manawa, and by three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the following: four brothers, Gerald Miller, Seattle, Wash.; Wayne Miller, Des Moines, Ia.; Darwen Miller, Fullerton, Calif.; North Miller, Pittsburg, Pa.; and three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Barrott, and Mrs. Helen Fullgraf, both of Hammond, Ind.; and Mrs. Esther Griep, Marshfield.

Pallbearers were George Zuehlke, Sr., Frank Dagenhardt, Vince Lindner, Harry Schlinsog, Joe Hubing, and Richard Weyer. Mrs. Robert Prior sang “Nearer to the Heart of God” and “Under His Wings” accompanied by Mrs. Julie Feldt.
