Tomaszewski, Magdalena (13 JUN 1877 - 11 DEC 1947)

Funeral services were conducted at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Monday morning, Dec. 15th for Mrs. Magdalena Tomaszewski of the Town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), who passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital at Chippewa Falls on Dec. 11, 1947, of heart disease. The Requiem Mass was sung by Rev. Piekarski, assisted by Rev. Kaim and Rev. Kamla.

Mrs. Tomaszewski had reached the age of 70 years, 5 months and 29 days. Magdalena Wolski was born in Poland on June 13, 1877. At the age of five years she came to America with her mother and brothers, residing at New York for a short time and then going to Cleveland, Ohio. She came to Thorp in 1892. On Jan. 29, 1894, she was united in marriage to John Tomaszewski in Cleveland. They purchased a farm south of the village that year and several years later moved onto a farm in the Town of Withee, in which community Mrs. Tomaszewski spent the rest of her life. Mr. Tomaszewski died in 1914.

She is survived by five sons, Joseph, George and Frank of Chicago; Andrew of Stanley and Peter of Thorp; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Bonarek of Chicago and Anna Tomaszewski of Thorp; two brothers, Anton Papierniak of Thorp and Frank Papierniak of Preston, Maryland, and 13 grandchildren. One son, Jack, preceded her in death in 1928.

She was laid to rest in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: John, Louis and Frank Papierniak, Joe Pabich, Louis Twarowski and Louis Truckey.

Relatives from out of town who were here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Tomaszewski and son, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Tomaszewski, Mr. and Mrs. Fr. Tomaszewski and family, Mrs. Marie Bonarek and family, and Miss Gloria Tomaszewski of Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Tomaszewski of Stanley.
