Alger, Laura (24 JAN 1874 - 15 MAR 1947)

Rev. Jas. Irish conducted funeral services at the Methodist Church at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Laura Alger who died here (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.), after a lingering illness, on Saturday, March 15, 1947. She had reached the age of 73 years, 1 month and 22 days.

Laura Craig Alger was born in Plainfield, Wis., on Jan. 24, 1874. She came to Thorp when still a young girl and this has since been her home. On Jan. 25, 1891 she was united in marriage to George Alger at Thorp, who passed away on Oct. 13, 1932. The family resided in the village for many years and also on a farm in the town of Worden.

Surviving are four sons, Earl of Kaukauna, Wis., Jay and Sydney of Thorp and Donald of Ladysmith; three daughters, Hazel Mrs. Dave Weinberger, and Eva, Mrs. Layton Asselin, of Thorp, and Doris, Mrs. Stanley Ustruck of Milwaukee; two brothers, Albert and Norman Craig of Cornell and one sister, Mrs. Charles Chamberlain of Eau Claire, Wis.

Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery with the following grandsons acting as pallbearers: Orville and Gilbert Asselin, Cyril and Edmund Alger, Willard Ustruck and Wm. Weinberger.
