Schaar, John H. (28 JUN 1871 - 17 MAY 1948)

John Henry Schaar, who was commonly known as "Henry" to his many friends in this community, was laid to rest at final rites conducted Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock from the Griebenow Funeral Parlors. Dr. K. O. Crosby of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Owen, officiated at he final rites and burial was made in the Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers at the service were: Henry Mauel, Sr., L. W. Cattanach, Sr., Adolph Haavisto, Wm. Catura, Sr., r. F. Gaffney, and Wm. Mattson.

John Henry Schaar was born on June 28, 1871, in Germany, and came to America as a young man of 20 years of age. He first settled in southern Wisconsin where he met his wife, Rosa Boight, whom he married in 1896. She preceded him in death, having passed away in May of 1924.

Later the family moved to this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) where Mr. Schaar had resided for the past 40 years. Prior to that he had resided in Curtiss (Clark Co.) for several years and worked here in the lumber company mill prior to Owen even being established as an unincorporated community. Since the time he was associated with the sawmill he had been engaged in the trade of carpentry and as a wood worker.

His death came suddenly and as a surprise to his many friends as he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack which proved fatal to him on Monday evening, May 17th, 1948, at Owen. He would have been 77 years of age in June.

Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. (Norma) Kehnl of Chippewa Fall and Mrs. (Helen) Lawrence Doucette of De Forest, Wis., and one son, John Ervine of Newport, Ky. Also, two grandsons, Jimmy and Thomas Doucette of De Forest, Ill. One daughter, Henrietta, and his wife have preceded him in death.
