Johnson, Edla S. (15 JUN 1873 - 26 NOV 1943)

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Loyal at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, for Mrs. Edla Johnson, 70, who died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield at 2:55 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, after an illness of several weeks. She had been a hospital patient one week. The Rev. Myron E. Taylor officiated at the rites, and burial took place in the Loyal cemetery. The body lay in state at the Ohlrogge funeral home until Sunday noon, when it was taken to the Johnson home.

Edla Sophia Anderson was born in Finland on June 15, 1873. Receiving her education there, she came to the United States when 24 years old. She was married to Carl Johnson at Kenosha on Sept. 24, 1904, living there until 1923, when they moved to a farm six miles north of Loyal. Mr. Johnson died during the influenza epidemic in 1918. Mrs. Johnson continued to live on the same place until her fatal illness.

She is survived by four children, Walter of Neillsville, Sigurd of Townsend and Russell and Mrs. Alfred Anderson of Loyal; eight grandchildren, and by one sister, Miss Nina Anderson.

Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs., Calvin Prior sang hymns and were accompanied by Mrs. Arnold Wicklund. Pallbearers were John Johnson, Joseph Pachal, Charley Kostlevy, S. N. Hallowell, Frank Pieper and Gust Piekola.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Sigurd Johnson and son, Richard, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Cole of Townsend, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and son Dennis, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Westphal of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Johnson of Unity, Mrs. Nels Hero and children of Greenwood and Mrs. Sylvester O’Brien of Spencer.

The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
