Ghent, Henry (14 September 1877 - 13 January 1950)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home and the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church for Henry Ghent, 72, of Neillsville.

Mr. Ghent was found dead in bed at the home of his brother, Adolph, at Melrose, where he was visiting. He had apparently been in good health last Thursday evening, when he retired.

Rev. N. J. Dechant officiated at the services, with interment made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Ghent was born in Little Falls (Monroe County) on September 14, 1877. He received his education and learned the blacksmith trade there.

He came to Neillsville about 36 years ago and operated the blacksmith and wagon shop on North Hewett Street until his retirement several years ago. He was a member of the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church.

On July 24, 1901, he was married to Sophie Wendt, who preceded him in death on August 1, 1947.

He is survived by a brother, Adolph, at Melrose; two sisters, Mrs. Meta Walters, Minneapolis and Mrs. Herman Claeir of Melrose.

Pallbearers were: Paul Jacob, James Neville, Nollie Blau, Nick Schafer, Art Kunze and Harry Kaufmann. Mrs. Heron Van Gordon sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Ray Arndt.

Those from out-of-town attending the rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Ghent, Donald Ghent, Mrs. Herman Claeir, all of Melrose; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Claeir of Sparta, Mrs. Wayne Huber, Bangor; Mrs. Theresa Boiesen, Mrs. Evan Hatton and Betty of Greenwood; Clara Lastofka, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Michels, Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Wills, of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. John Dahlke of Edgar; Mr. and Mrs. Leland Claeir, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Peters of Ettrick.
