Tomke, Arlene I. (2 Apr. 1925 - 29 Oct. 2008)

Arlene I. Tomke, 83, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at Grace Lutheran Church, Nasonville. The Rev. Jeanne Warner will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home and one hour prior to service time Saturday at the church. Mrs. Tomke was born April 2, 1925, on the family farm in Clark County. She was the daughter of John and Alvina (Spuhler) Noble. Arlene attended Grant School.

On Oct. 4, 1947, at Grace Lutheran Church, Arlene was united in holy marriage to Richard Tomke. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 2004. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Fremont for over 60 years. In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker and assisting her husband on the farm, Arlene also worked cleaning homes.

Mrs. Tomke was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Nasonville.

Grandma Tomke cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. Some of her other interests included fishing, woodworking and she loved to attend auctions.

Arlene is lovingly survived by her daughter, Terry (Douglas) Grube, Auburndale; seven grandchildren, Eric, Bradley, Matthew, Tara, Tanya, Jonathon and Melissa; and six great-grandchildren, Sophia, Liliana and Jaxon, Jacob, Christopher and Megan. One sister, Orcelia Solberg, Wisconsin Rapids, further survives Arlene.

Her husband; a son, Michael; and one infant son preceded her in death.

A special thank you to someone who will always be near and dear to her heart, Carol Tomke.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy in Mrs. Tomke's name are encouraged to do so to Grace Lutheran Church.

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!

There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,

Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever,

Safely home in Heaven at last.

There is work still waiting for you,

So you must not idly stand,

Do it now while life remaineth

You shall rest in God's own land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you home;

Oh, the rapture of that meeting

Oh, the joy to see you come!
