Bauer, Joseph F. (10 OCT 1912 - 28 AUG 1943)

Joseph F. Bauer, 30, was found dead in an outbuilding at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer, at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday by his wife. The cause of his death has not been determined. A post mortem was ordered by Coroner H. L. Brown of Neillsville.

Mr. Bauer, who weighed about 360 pounds, was involved in an auto accident last Wednesday, when the truck he was driving for Schultz brothers collided with a car driven by Sven Swensen of Hixton, near Withee.

The truck struck a tree and rolled over, and the deceased crawled out through the vehicle. He complained of pain in one leg, but x-ray examination showed no breaks. Whether or not the accident injury had any bearing on his death will not be known until the results of the post mortem are disclosed.

Funeral services will be conducted at St. Anthony’s Catholic church her at 9 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Aloys Zinthefer officiating, and burial will take place in the parish cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Ohlrogge funeral home until the time of the rites.

An obituary will be printed in next week’s Tribune.

Joseph F. Bauer, 30, was found dead by his wife at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer, at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4. Although the report of the post mortem has not been released, it is thought probable that his death might have been the result of an auto accident occurring the previous Wednesday, when the truck he was driving collided with a car, then struck a tree and rolled over.

Joseph Frank Bauer was born in Loyal on Oct. 10, 1912, and most of his life was lived here, except for two years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He returned from there last March. He received his education in the local Catholic parochial school. His marriage to Catherine Beaver took place on May 16, 1938. His friendly ways and kindly disposition won for him many friends who were deeply shocked to learn of his sudden death.

He had received instructions to report on Tuesday to take his first physical examination for U.S. army entrance. Death unexpectedly canceled this appointment.

Surviving besides his wife and two children, Margaret, 4, and Michael, two months, are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bauer; three sisters, Mrs. Harold (Josephine) Zimmerman of Janesville, Mrs. Hilton (Aurelia) Kurth of Loyal and Mrs. Thomas (Genevieve) LaVerdure of Chilton, and a brother, John Bauer, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Anthony’s Catholic church at 9 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Aloys Zinthefer officiating, and burial was in the parish cemetery.

Those who served as pallbearers were Roland Bauer, Paul Bauer, Oscar Bauer, Lawrence Bauer, Ed Bauer, Ed Beaver, Frank Degenhardt, Bernard Beaver and Matt Beaver. The first four named were cousins of the deceased.

Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Zimmerman of Janesville, Mrs. Thomas La Verdure of Chilton, John Bauer of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. William Hagen, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gall and Mr., and Mrs. Arnold Gall of West Allis, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bauer of Bakerville and Mr. and Mrs. George Frei, Mrs. George Pagenkopf and Mrs. Ben Schwellenbach of Neillsville.

The Loyal Tribune joins friends of the bereaved in extending them sympathy in the loss of the departed.
