Horton, William A. (16 July 1872 - 2 October 1949)

William Horton, 77, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Emily Schilling at Altoona on Sunday, October 2, 1949.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 o’clock at the Bergemann Funeral Home. The Rev. N. J. Dechant officiated. Burial was made in Dells Dam Cemetery in the Town of Levis.

Mr. Horton was born in Steuben County, N. Y. July 16, 1872. When he was a child he moved with his parents to Clark County, where he has resided the past 69 years. He was a school teacher for many years and later became a contractor. For the last several years he farmed. He was justice of peace in the Town of Levis for many years.

In June 1897, he was married to Winnie Rather at Watertown, S. D. She passed away in 1899. In 1912 he was married to Emma Phillips at St. Paul, Minn. She preceded him in death on August 30 of this year (1949).

 

He leaves one daughter, Mrs. (Gretchen) Harry Anderson of Neillsville, one grandchild and one great grandchild, one brother, Victor Horton and one sister, Mrs. Emily Schilling of Altoona. One brother, Melvin is deceased.
