Servaty, John #2 (1867 - 23 DEC 1946)

John J. Servaty, 79, a pioneer resident of the county of Clark, and the city of Owen, as well, was laid to rest Saturday afternoon when final rites were read at the Neillsville, Cemetery, after services had been conducted on Friday at Lake Namakagon, where he had made his home for the past 10 years.

For the past two or three weeks Mr. Servaty’s health had been failing, and remarks her made Monday night, Dec. 23rd, previous to leaving his home on Lake Namakagon, with his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Guemendan and wife, Mrs. Servaty, were indicative that he realized his time on earth was short.

As he was about to enter the car, enroute to the Guemendan home at Montreal, Wis., he requested that they wait a minute as he wished to walk back and take a last look at the cottage, as he would never see it again. Upon his return to the car he asked that they stop at Bob Inn for a minute to see a very close friend, Bob Newton. The two visited for awhile and then, while enroute to Montreal, at the outskirts of Hurley, Mr. Servaty slumped dead while talking with his family.

He was born at Neillsville, Wis. (Clark Co.), where he associated himself with the lumbering business until 1916, at which time he and his family moved to Owen where he was employed by the John S. Owen Lumber Co. for 20 years. Ten years ago he and Mrs. Servaty moved to their home on Lake Namakagon.

John Servaty was a reputable citizen of the county and city of Owen, and as a result won the admiration and respect of a host of friends many of whom still made an annual visit with the Servaty’s at their Lake Namakagon home.

He is survived by his wife, Edith, a daughter, Mrs. Herman (Madeline) Guemendan, and two sons, Claire of Chicago, Ill., and Lynn of Little Rock, Ark.

At Neillsville the Rev. Floyd Fahlgren officiated at the service, while H. M. Wollum, V. P . Barager, L. W. Cattanach, W. K. Doonan, R. E. Gabriel and Harvey Weddig, Owen, served as pallbearers.

Among those from Owen and Withee that attended the services were Mesdames Henry Weddig, Clara Kuehl, L. W. Cattanach, Belle Sturgeon and Miss Joyce Barager.
