Davis, Lessie W. (11 September 1868 - 21 September 1949)

Services for Mrs. Lessie W. Davis, 81, were held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Lee Holmes, Loyal, officiated. Burial was made at Windfall Cemetery, Granton.

During the services Mrs. William Schmidtke and Mrs. Van Kayser sang, and were accompanied by Ruth Pietenpol.

Pallbearers were: Henry Knoll, Sr., Walter Drake, Freeman Dankemyer, Ernest Lee, Fred Dankemyer, and Charles Mundt.

Those who carried flowers were Mrs. Fred Dankemyer, Mrs. Walter Drake, and Mrs. W. E. Olin.

Mrs. Lessie W. Davis was born at Stockholm, N.Y. on September 11, 1868 and died September 21, 1949 at Friendship, Wis. Pneumonia was the cause of death.

At the age of two, her parents moved to the Town of Fremont, Clark County. For a number of years, before and after her marriage, Mrs. Davis taught school in both Wisconsin and Oregon.

On October 1, 1890, she was united in marriage to Sherman T. Davis, also of the Town of Fremont. Except for a few years that they lived in Oregon, they farmed in the Heathville area until Mr. Davis’ death in 1928. Heathville was named after Mrs. Davis’ family name, Heath. For the past 14 years she has made her home with her sons in Adams and Chili.

One sister, Effie M. Davis, preceded her in death. Another sister, Allie D. Ralston, Portland, Ore., survives. Other survivors are two sons, Wellie H. Davis, Chili, and Elton R. Davis, Adams. Six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Elton Davis and sons, Adams, James R. Davis, Whitewater, Mrs. LaVerne Flower, Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Miller, Rockford, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Davis, Albany.
