Matson, Anna M. (16 AUG 1865 - 19 AUG 1946)

Funeral rites for Mrs. Lawrence Matson were held Monday, Sept. 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.). The Rev. L. C. Bundgaard, pastor of the church, and Rev. J. L. J. Dixen of Withee officiated at the service. Mrs. Matson was laid to rest in the Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery at Withee.

Mrs. Lawrence Matson, nee Anna Marie Rasmussen, was born August 16, 1865 in Denmark. When she was 18 years old she came to Davenport, Iowa with her uncle and her sister. Later she moved to South Dakota to join her father, mother and sister.

In Sept. 1885 she married Lawrence Matson. In Nov. 1896, traveling in a covered wagon, she came with her husband and family to Withee, where she made her home until the death of her husband in Sept. 1920.

In 1931 she went to France as a Gold Star Mother. For some time after that she lived in various place. In recent years she had made her home in Minneapolis, Minn., with her daughter Josephine.

She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Josephine Matson, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Thomas (Marie) Ginnick, Philipsburg, Penn., Mrs. Harold (Laurina) Linnett, Tyler, Minn., and Mrs. Henry (Othelia) Axelsen of Superior; three sons, Christian and Andrew of Withee, and Fred of Owen; fifteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Christopher Jensen of Tyler, Minn., and Mrs. Lars Christiansen of Davenport, Iowa, nieces and newphes, and her many friends. Her husband and two sons preceded her in death, Hans Harold and Niels Maurius, the latter killed in action in World War I.

The pallbearers at the funeral were Viggo Hansen, Emil Hansen, Stephen Quist, Andrew Olsen, Richard Nielsen and Henry Frietag.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Miss Josephine Matson of Minneapolis; William Heirmendinger of Herrick, S.D., Mrs. Thomas Ginnick of Philipsburg, a., Mr. and Mrs. Harold Linnett of Tyler, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Axelsen and daughter Petronella, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Axelsen of Superior, and Mr. and Mrs. Jens Andreasen of Iowa.
