Howard, Carrie M. (12 February 1864 - 24 June 1949)

Mrs. Carrie Howard, 85, died at the home of her son, Verne, in the Town of Grant on June 24, 1949 at 8:30 p.m. The body lay-in-state at the Bergemann Funeral Home until Monday when it was taken to the Methodist Church, where services were held at 2 p.m. Burial was made in the Town of Grant Cemetery. The Rev. Virgil W. Nulton officiated.

Caroline M. Lichte was born February 12, 1864, to Frederick and Caroline Lichte. When she was 13 years old she came to the Town of Grant, where she lived until five years ago, when she moved to Neillsville.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Women’s Benefit Association.

On May 6, 1885, she was united in marriage to George Howard at Neillsville. Five children were born to this union, all of whom survive: Mrs. Ethel Geisler of Chicago; Archie Howard, Marshfield; Verne Howard and Alva Howard, Town of Grant; and Mrs. Gertrude Martin of Neillsville.

She leaves two brothers, Adolph Lichte of the Town of Grant and Fred Lichte of Granton; also 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Howard and two sisters preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were: Carl Lichte, Walter Lichte, Ervin Lichte, Elmer Lichte, Bob Blackman and Clifford Blackman. Ladies in charge of the flowers were: Mrs. Fern Kuehn, Mrs. Joe Kernz, Mrs. Donald Hughes and Mrs. Clifford Blackman. Joyce Kuehn sang two selections, accompanied by Mrs. Florence Counsell at the piano.

Those from out-of-town attending the services were: Mrs. Alice Milkie and Merton Howard of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Anton David of Nekoosa; Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Hiles of Dexterville; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lichte, Mr. and Mrs. Clarion Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Howard and Robert Howard, all of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Meinhart of Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Lichte, Mr. and Mrs. John Seibold, Mrs. Ida Horn and Glen Horn, all of Greenwood; Mrs. Ethel Geisler of Chicago, Mrs. J. P. Wojciechowski, Mrs. Ervin Habeck of Athens; and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gluch, Marshfield.

My mother in laws father was named Dexter Hiles. Her name was Marzella Hiles McKinley had two brothers, Fenton and Wilber. Have pictures of that part of the family. Do you know if these are the Mr, and Mrs Hiles? I am married to her youngest son Thank You Charleen McKinley

The Dexter Hiles that I have in my Lichte family is married to Marian Howard, who would be Caroline Lichte's granddaughter. Marian's father and mother were Archibald and Ida(Gluck)Howard. Does this help?
