Weetz, John #2 (20 OCT 1879 - 11 MAY 1939)

Funeral services will be held for John Weetz, age 59, Sunday afternoon at 1:30 from the home. Interment will be made in Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Weetz, who has been in ill health for some time, was found in the garage behind his home, the victim of suicide, early Thursday morning. Death apparently occurred about 5 a.m.

John Weetz was born in Holstein, Germany Oct. 20, 1879, and in the year 1883 immigrated to the United States with his parents and settled in Davenport, Iowa, where he received part of his education, later in 1895 they moved to Jackson, Minn., where they engaged in farming.

Mr. Weetz was united to Miss Emma Steinke of Jackson on June 10, 1903, and to that happy wedding two children have been born; Mrs. E. H. Bitter and Clarence Weetz of Abbotsford, Wis.

The Weetz family engaged in farming at Jackson Minn., until 1917, when they came to Wisconsin and settled on a farm near Pittsville, until 1922, when they moved to Abbotsford, where they operated a restaurant for a year. Mr. Weetz was village assessor for seven years, also in the employment of the Northern States Power Co. In later years he conducted a small insurance agency.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. John Weetz, a daughter, Mrs. Ervin Bitter, a son, Clarence Weetz, two grandchildren, Melvin and John Carl Bitter, two sisters, Mrs. T. C. Doyscher and Mrs. Tom Schneekloth of Jackson, Minn.

His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Mr. Weetz passed away at his home on Thursday morning at 4:15, May 11, 1939, at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 21 days, after a lingering illness of five years. Funeral services were conducted from the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Bitter, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock by the Rev. Hoover. Sacred selections were rendered by Mrs. J. M. Beechel and Mr. Lloyd smith, accompanist was Mr. C. A. Nelson, all of Colby, Wis. Final rites at Memorial Cemetery were conducted by the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member; the Eastern Star had charge of the many floral tributes.

Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were A. H. Weetz, Mrs. Tom Schneekloth, Mrs. T. C. Doyscher, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Van Westen, all of Jackson, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Steinke and daughter, Evelyn, of Rockford, Ill.; Herman Steinke of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Mr. Ed Dohm and Mr. and Mrs. Al Ruesch of Stetsonville.
