Greenwood High School Class of 1950 (20 Year Reunion - 1970)

The Class of 1950 of Greenwood High School held its 20th year reunion at the American Legion Hall in Greenwood on July 4. There were 33 attending. Nineteen class members were present out of a class of 47.

The American Legion Auxiliary prepared the banquet. A cake in the shape of a large “20” graced the banquet table. It was decorated with green and white icing, which were the class colors, and also with white roses, the class flower. On the cake was written, “Greenwood High School, Class of 1950-1970.”

After the banquet, the business meeting was opened by a welcome from Harold Miller. He then turned the meeting over to Wilbert Swieso, the master of ceremonies. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Panzenhagen of North Palm Beach, Fl., were present. Mr. Panzenhagen, a former teacher, was presented with a metal plaque.

The classmates introduced themselves and told what they had been doing in the last five years. Letters were read from the following that were unable to attend: Joyce (Tieman) Washburn, Patricia (Syth) Parks, Viola (Radke) Vandeberg, Shirley Smith, JoAnn (Kitzhaber) Suda, and Donald Schwarze. A memorial service was held for Duane Berrett, the deceased member of our class. Eula (Jackson) Franz read the Class Will and Bernelda (Noah) Karlen read the class prophecy.

Prizes were awarded as follows: For coming the longest distance, Wilbert Swieso, who traveled 2,400 miles from Fresno, Calif.; most recently married and newest baby, both awarded to Donna (Baird) Larson; longest sideburns, Glenn Sisson. (This paragraph was a jumble and I feel some prizes may have been missed).

Art Petkovsek was awarded a prize for being the only class member to serve on all three reunion committees. He consented to be chairman of the committee for 1975. Members of this year’s reunion committee were Dolores (Malnar) Zukowski of Thorp and Arthur Pekovsek of Greenwood.

It was voted to have the next reunion on Saturday of the first weekend in July, 1975. This time a special effort will be made to have more class members attend by contacting them personally. A booklet and a photograph will be mailed to all class members who either replied by letter or attended in person. The meeting was adjourned and a social hour followed.

Members present were: Mrs. Joe (Betty Volovsek) Fraid of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Gene (Josie Vesel) Sowieja of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Donna Baird) Larson of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Beverly Quast) Sisson of Milwaukee; Darrel Horn of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Verlyn Sloniker of Greenwood; Gerald Horn of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Eula Jackson) Franz of Elk Mound; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miller of Joliet, Illinois; Arthur Petkovsek of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Vollrath of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Dolores Malnar) Zukowski of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Cy (Beverly Carteron) Spangler of Watertown; Mr. and Mrs. Wilton (Bernelda Noah) Karlen of Owen; Mr. and Mrs. William (Evelyn Anderson) (some of this article was cut off thus some class members in attendance are missed).
