Wagner, Herman Ferdinand (11 July 1872 - 31 August 1948)

Herman Ferdinand Wagner, 76, died at 12:40 p.m. August 31, 1948, after an illness of 16 years. Funeral services were held Friday, September 3, from the Georgas Funeral Home and at St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Rev. William Baumann officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Wagner was born in Germany, July 11, 1872, the son of Carl and Henrietta Schwantz Wagner. He came to the United States at the age of 16, with his parents, who located in southern Wisconsin. Later he settled in the Town of Pine Valley and farmed. In 1917 he married Marie Aberham, in Neillsville. Mrs. Wagner survives. He is also survived by two children: Mrs. Perry Larson of Neillsville and Herman A. Wagner of Wisconsin Rapids.

Pallbearers were: Emil Zank, Otto Wetzel, August Klann, Walter Wagner and August Nemitz. Mrs. William Baumann sang, accompanied by Victor Lehman at the organ.

Those who attended from out-of-town included: Herman Wagner, Jr., of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. August Wagner Jr., and Mrs. Meta Upperman, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. William Klann and Mrs. John Bartoz, Portage; and Mr. and Mrs. August Schaefer, Loyal.
