Mabel P. Selk, 88, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Memorial Nursing Home, Medford. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mable P. Selk

MEDFORD -- Mable P. Selk, 88, of Medford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford, where she had resided the past five years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield on Saturday, Aug. 16, with the Rev. Peter Manickam officiating. Suzanne Golden will be organist for Sacred Heart Church Funeral Choir. Burial will take place in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Chili.

The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at Sacred Heart Church.

The former Mable Verhagen was born May 4, 1920, in Chili to Adrian and Christina (Joosten) Verhagen. She attended Chili and Little Chute schools. On April 4, 1940, she married Alvord H. Selk at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Chili. He died Sept. 11, 1967. After her husband's death, she moved to Ridgeway, Pa., with her son and his family. There she was employed as a psychiatric technician in the Ridgeway Hospital. When the family returned to Wisconsin in 1972 she again worked as a psychiatric technician at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield until her retirement in 1985. After retirement, she traveled twice to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska and once to Central America. Her hobbies included knitting, reading and going to the casino.

She is survived by her son, Alvord (Billie Lee) Selk Jr. of Medford and three great-grandchildren, Kristin Friedenfels of Crystal, Minn., Nicole Graf and Samantha Graf of Medford.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughters, Angela (Richard) Friedenfels and Stephanie (Patrick) Graf, who were both of Medford; and five brothers, Edward, Joseph, Paul, Louis and Howard; and six sisters, Ella, Harriet, Marie, Louise, Bertha and Francis.
