Sumner, George D. (10 DEC 1877 - 21 AUG 1942)

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Aug. 24, for George David Sumner, who died Friday morning, Aug. 21, at 11 o’clock in St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, following an illness of seven weeks. He underwent an operation about a month ago.

Funeral services were held at the residence of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fait, Monday morning at 9:30 and at 10 o’clock at St. James Catholic church in Vesper. A rosary service was conducted in the Fait home at 8 o’clock Sunday evening. The Rev. B. J. Oferwinder officiated at the requiem high mass. Burial was made in the Beaver cemetery.

Mr. Sumner was born on Dec. 10, 1877, in Iowa. He attained the age of 64 years, eight months and 10 days..

Pallbearers were Henry Treutel, Bill Moody, Fred Baumann, Charles Treutel, Elmer Dassow and Elmer McNamee. Flowers were carried by Misses Geraldine Conklin, Shirley Milloy, Manona Klawitter and Betty Milloy.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elenora) Fait of Vesper, Mrs. Alfred (Nola) Just of West Allis and Mrs. Harry (Sara) Degler and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Roden, both of Milwaukee; two sisters; two brothers; six grandchildren; his aged mother, Mrs. Catherine Sumner, and his step-father, Harvey Sumner, of Minnesota.

Mr. Sumner at one time lived on a farm in Beaver. In 1927 he sold his farm and moved to Greenwood and was a stock buyer there for several years. He then moved to Pittsville. The family lived there a couple of years and then moved to Vesper where he lived until his death. He was engaged in running a filling station at Vesper.
