Lewerenz, Carl W. (19 JAN 1864 - 5 JUL 1947)

Carl William Lewerenz, 83, who had been making his home with his son, Otto, in Neillsville (Clark Co., Wis.), died at that home on July 5, 1947, at 4:30 a.m. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 8, from the Georgas Funeral Home and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rev. William A. Lauterbach of Granton officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mr. Lewerenz was born to Carl and Henrietta Tratzen Lewerenz in Germany on Jan. 19, 1864. He was married to Alvina Bartelt in 1890, and they came to America six years later, settling first in Tomahawk, where Mr. Lewerenz was engaged in farming and logging. They moved to a farm near Elroy in 1909 and then finally came to Neillsville in 1923. Mr. Lewerenz had been a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, serving also as its caretaker for several years.

The deceased is survived by his wife and their two sons, Otto and Carl, Jr., of Neillsville. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers were: Harry Roehrborn, Henry Naedler, Albert Dahnert, John Moen, Herbert B Borde and Paul Bartell, Sr. Mrs. William A. Baumann sang, accompanied by Mr. Bremer. Flower ladies were Mrs. Harry Roehrborn and Mrs. Janie Paulus.

Relatives from out of town here for the funeral were: Miss Lorraine Lewerenz of Racine; Mrs. Roy B. Lewerenz and two daughters, Clarice and Veda, and Herman Krause, Tomahawk; Mrs. Rudolph Preuss, Mrs. August Lewerenz, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lewerenz, Elroy.
