Nagy, Marie (Military Note - 1984)

(Photo was shown of this procedure with this caption.)

A Father can play many roles in a daughter’s life, but it isn’t often that papa can be the person giving the oath of allegiance to his offspring as they enter the military. That happened when Michael Nagy swore in his daughter, Marie on Friday morning, April 6, into the U.S. Coast Guard. Looking on was a coast guard recruiter.

The story: Uncle Sam would not have a problem bringing young men and women into military service if all families were like the Nagy’s. So far, the family has given 50 years of service to the U.S. Army, Navy and Coast Guard.

On Friday morning of last week, Marie Nagy, 19, was sworn in to the U.S. Coast Guard in brief ceremonies. Giving the oath was her father, Michael Nagy, who is a retired U.S. Army officer. This was a first for Michael Nagy. “I’ve always wanted to swear in one of my children,” he said. The opportunity developed when Marie’s father found out that retired officers, as well as active offices and recruiting personnel, could administer the oath.

With Marie’s mother Rasma and a coast guard recruiter looking on, Marie gave her commitment in the community room of the Neillsville Bank where Michael is now employed as a loan officer.

Marie will being active duty—(the rest of the story not to be found).
