Hakes, Richard Frank (27 January 1912 - 23 June 2008)

Richard Frank Hakes, age 96, of Stanley, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Thorp. He was born on January 27, 1912, in the Town of Anson, Chippewa County, the son of the late George and Almira (Dewey) Hakes. He attended public school and graduated from Stanley High School in 1931.

Richard married Eleanor Mitchell on August 13, 1933. They farmed in the Town of Worden for 38 years, and moved to Stanley in 1975, where he lived until July 2007 when he moved to Oakbrook Health and Rehab, Thorp. Richard also worked out while farming with Ed Lund in cement construction, for a silo company and at O & N Lumber. He worked as a milk hauler for LaGrander’s Hillside Dairy for 10 years before retiring. Once in town he often accompanied Don or Buzzy Halterman to car auctions. Richard was an active member in the Worden Church of the Brethren for many years while on the farm.

Richard is survived by three sons: La Verne (Barbara) Hakes and Donald (Linda) Hakes, both of Stanley, and Lyle (Mary Holden) Hakes, Delavan; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Hakes, Oakbrook Manor, Thorp; and two step-daughters: Sandi (Larry) Quarberg, Chetek, and Dianne (Arnie) Armes, Warrens.

He was preceded in death by three wives: Eleanor in 1981, Dagmar in 1991, and Sylvia in 1995; his parents; four sisters; two brothers; and one grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Trinity Christian Fellowship, rural Stanley. Burial will be in the Edson Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
