Eilert, Ernst #3 (1845? - 10 AUG 1902)

A dispatch received Sunday from Fresno, Cal., brought the shocking news of the death of Ernst Eilert, of Bright’s disease.

Mrs. Eilert and her daughters, Mrs. Fred Huntzicker and Miss Leta, were here (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) on a visit, and were notified to remain, as the body would be brought here for burial.

Ernst Eilert was an old resident of Neillsville, where in the early ‘80’s he bought the Neverman & Sontag brewery, transformed it into a modern institution, and ran it successfully for many years, finally selling out to Kirth Listeman (who later married his daughter Maggie) and went to Fresno, where, in company with another son-in-law, Frederick Huntzicker, he erected the largest brewery on the Pacific Coast, and had build up a big business.

When the writer first met Mr. Eilert he was running a brewery at Humbird, but soon after outgrew that plant and moved here. He was universally respected for his many manly qualities, his liberal business methods and friendliness. The health of himself and family was what took him and them to California in the first place, and the change greatly benefited them.

The party coming from Fresno with Mr. Eilert’s remains, are expected to reach here Saturday. Will and Louie Eilert and the former’s wife are coming.
