FRED C. ROBERTS

Fred C. Roberts, age 86, longtime Town of Delmar area resident passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Stanley, WI.

A Christian Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Fr. Robert Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be at the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Stanley, WI. Friends and family may call from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday morning at the church prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Stanley Historical Society or the Soo Line Depot Project.

Plombon Funeral Service, Stanley, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.

Fred was born October 15, 1921, in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Newcome & Louise (Fisher) Roberts. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Boyd where he grew up and attended area schools. On September 24, 1942, he was united in marriage to Lillian Rose and they purchased a farm in the Town of Delmar where they resided and raised their family.

Along with farming, Fred also worked in the woods for John Lacina of Cadott, WI, drove truck and heavy equipment for Don Manley, did mechanical work for Westaby Trucking, helped build many barns and sheds over the years, and spent many hours running the bulldozer for his son, Clyde. Fred could fix just about everything. Later, he made toys for children and lap quilts for area nursing homes. Fred was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge in Thorp, WI.

He is survived by five children: David (Anita) Roberts, Milwaukee, Fred (Carole) Roberts, Stewardville, MN, Gary (Paula) Roberts, Colorado Springs, CO, Ken Roberts and Mary Grindle of Stanley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Roberts, Smelterville, Idaho; and two sisters: Lucille Waldrun, Hampton, VA and Bernice Green, Boyd.

He is predeceased by his wife, Lillian; two sons: Jim and Clyde; two grandsons; and four brothers: William, Henry, Charles and John.

Fred was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all.
