Hemp, Augusta (20 Aug. 1880 - 7 Nov. 1944)

Mrs. Augusta Hemp, aged 64, died at her home in Neillsville, on November 7. Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon, November 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, preceded by brief services at the Jaster Funeral Home. The Rev. William A. Baumann, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial took place in the Neillsville Cemetery.

She was born Augusta Hagedorn in Germany, on August 10, 1880, and came to America when three years of age with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hagedorn. They settled in the town of Weston, Clark County, where she grew to womanhood.

In 1898 she was married to Ernest Hemp, at Globe, and they went to live on a farm in the town of Seif. In 1932 they moved to Neillsville, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was confirmed in the Globe Lutheran Church, and after coming to Neillsville became a member of St. John’s Church. Mr. Hemp died on July 12, 1936.

Two daughters and four sons survive. They are: Elsie, Mrs. John Poppe, and town of Seif, Clara, Mrs. Theodore Mitte, town of Weston; Paul Hemp, Rochester, Minn.; Leo Hemp, town of Seif; Arthur Hemp, Jefferson, Wis.; and John Hemp, La Crosse, Wis. Three brothers and a sister also survive. They are: Paul and Richard Hagedorn, town of Weston; William Hagedorn, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Mrs. Elizabeth Grap, Wausau, Wi. There are 13 grandchildren.

Those attended the funeral from a distance: William Hagedorn, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Elizabeth Grap, Wausau; Melvin Grap and wife of Wausau; Albert O. Manthei, Rochester, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Grap, Milwaukee, and their daughter Viola and husband.
