Kelly, Thomas (8 Aug. 1861 - 14 Apr. 1945)

Thomas Kelly, aged 83 years, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at his home in Neillsville, death being attributed to old age. The body had reposed at the home on South State street since Sunday when it was removed from the Schiller-Terhune funeral home. Brief services were held at the home on Wednesday morning, April 18, and at 9 o’clock services were conducted at St. Mary’s Catholic church, by the Rev. Fr. J. A. Biegler, the pastor. Burial took place in the parish cemetery. A rosary service was held Tuesday evening at the home.

Mr. Kelly was born August 8, 1861, at Stratford, Ontario, the son of Patrick and Bridget Kelly. He grew to manhood there and received his education in the schools of Ontario. When he was about 32 years of age, he came to the U.S., settling soon after in Clark county. For several years he engaged in farming in the town of Pine Valley, later moving to Neillsville. For about 30 years he was janitor of the South side school, retiring in 1940. He was a good workman, and faithful in his attention to duty. He was a man of friendly disposition and, through his long connection with the schools, had won and held the respect of teachers and students. He was "Tom" Kelly to a host of friends. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church and of the Sacred Heart Society.

Soon after his arrival in the United States he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Robb at Port Huron, Mich. Three children were born to them: William A. Kelly and Frank J. Kelly, both of whom reside in Seattle, Wash., and Margaret, who died in 1932. Mrs. Kelly’s death occurred April 18, 1941. He also has a foster daughter, daughter of his deceased brother, Pat. She is Marion, Mrs. Pat Dowling of Lakehurst, N.J. Four grandchildren survive; also five foster grandchildren.

Mr. Kelly’s parents and five brothers and two sisters are deceased. One brother survives, William Kelly, Sr., whose home is in Stratford, Ontario. He arrived here April 8. The sons were here recently to visit their father, and returned from Seattle for the funeral services, arriving in Neillsville Tuesday morning.

Anna Lubinski has been keeping house for Mr. Kelly and caring for him the past 18 months. His nurse during recent weeks has been Mrs. Ed. Fuller. Pallbearers for the last rites were: James Musil, George Zimmerman, Frank Reinhard, Joe Zilk, Ben Frantz and Harry McIntyre.
