In the death of Joseph Marion Eysnogle of Neillsville, as recorded in last week’s Press, this community has suffered the loss of a respected and useful citizen. His entire life had been spent as a farmer in Richland and Clark counties, with the exception of the last two years when he resided in Neillsville. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church at York Center and later at Neillsville, and was a regular attendant, as long as his health permitted.

Joseph Marion Eysnogle, son of William and Rebeca Eysnogle, was born September 30, 1866, in Richland county, Wis. There he grew to manhood and received his education. On December 29, 1887, he was married to Nettie Deets at Bloom City, Wis., and a few years later they came to Clark county. In 1907 they returned to their native county, but still retained the love for Clark county, and came back in 1914. They lived on their farm in the town of York until 1942, when they moved to Neillsville.

Besides his interest in farming, Mr. Eysnogle worked with tools, and was an expert woodsman. While living in the city he often journeyed to the farm to assist when work was heavy and enjoyed the fine garden which he raised at his home in Neillsville.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The daughters are Blanche, Mrs. Charles Schaffner, Zettie, Mrs. James Young; Dessie, Mrs. Merton Davis, all of whom reside on route 4, Neillsville. One child died in childhood. The grandchildren are Mrs. Herbert Fensome, Spencer; Mrs. J. E. Hollister, Richland Center; Joe Davis, Wisconsin Rapids; Bernard Davis, Neillsville; Wilbur Schaffner, serving with the U.S. army in France; Halan Davis with the navy Seabees in the Marshall Islands.

Also surviving are two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Charles Schweiger, Ladysmith; Mrs. W. D. Johnson, Black River Falls; Adam Eysnogle, Phillips.

The Jaster funeral home had charge of the arrangements.
