Glen V. Blum

WITHEE -- Glen V. Blum, 91, of Withee, died Saturday, May 3, 2008, in the emergency room at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Funeral services are pending. A complete obituary will be printed in the News-Herald later in the week.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Glen V. Blum

WITHEE -- Glen V. Blum, 91, of Withee, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Emergency Room in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday, both at the funeral home.

Glen was born June 5, 1916, to Edward and Hazel (Reed) Blum in Lynn Hollow in Grant County. He attended Potisi School in Grant County until the eighth grade. Following his education, Glen drove a team of horses for a company that helped create what is now known as the Mississippi River Valley. Glen enlisted in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was deployed to the 5th Armored Division and was assigned to Field Artillery. He was honorably discharged from the army in 1945. Glen, along with his brother Ralph, started a commercial fishing business from 1945 to 1966. During that time Glen married Joretta Whitish on Oct. 22, 1949, in Platteville. After commercial fishing with his brother, Glen farmed in Longwood and later retired from Teledyne Post in Owen.

Glen in his free time loved watching baseball, softball and football. Glen was an avid duck hunter and fisherman.

Glen is loving survived by his wife Joretta of Withee; his children, Dennis Blum of Odessa, Texas, Kathleen King of Keller, Texas, Allan (Virginia) Blum of Willard, Eugene Blum of Neillsville, Richard (Gloria) Blum of Withee, Joretta Ann (Michael) Wimmer of Neillsville and Steven (Carla) Blum of Abbotsford; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Clifford (Olive) Blum Galacia, Ill.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents; one son, David; one great-grandchild; two brothers; and one sister.
