Nelson, Sigert E. (31 Aug. 1900 - 16 Aug. 2001)

Sigert E. Nelson, 100, Princeton, Wisconsin, a long-time Stevens Point resident and father of a Stevens Point woman, died in Princeton Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Maxfield officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Cemetery in Spencer.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the services.

A memorial is established in his name for Operation Bootstrap.

Boston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nelson was born Aug. 31, 1900, in Paxton, Ill., a son of the late Charles and Wilhelmina (Pederson) Nelson. He moved to Little Falls, Minn., and grew up there.

He was married to Lydia Griepentrog on Sept. 20, 1920, in Spencer. She died Aug. 3, 1997.

In 1920 he joined the Soo Line Railroad in Minneapolis, Minn., moving to Stevens Point in 1940. He retired in 1966 as locomotive engineer. In earlier years he was the local chairman of the Railroadman's Union.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Evergreen Lodge 93, F&AM for more than 75 years and Arbutus Chapter 52 Order of Eastern Star. While active with the Masons he was a trustee and a member of their Rainbow Girls Board. He was also involved in the building of the new Masonic Temple in 1971.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Erna) and Dale (Esther), both of Holiday, Fla.; three daughters, Elaine (Ken) Bentley, Montello, Gerri Martini, Rhinelander, and Lois (Dick) Hofmeister, Stevens Point; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one infant son, one sister, six brothers and one grandchild.

Family Notes

Sigert E. Nelson is buried in West Spencer Cemetery, Sherman Township, Clark County, Wisconsin.
