Blake, Melvin Charles (29 July 1907 - 22 Sept. 1970)

Melvin C. Blake, 63, 2321 Jersey St., died at 3:30 a.m. today at St. Michael's Hospital (Stevens Point, Portage County, Wis.)  after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Blake was an engineer for the Soo Line Railroad.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Intercession. The Very Rev. Conrad L. Kimbrough will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. Canon Edward C. Lewis and Rev. Arthur Becker, a son-in-law.

Burial will be held in Restlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Crosby Funeral Home.

Mr. Blake was born July 29, 1907, in Abbotsford, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Blake. He was a graduate of Abbotsford High School.

He married Rachel Weaver on Feb. 3, 1930 in Chippewa Falls. After their marriage they resided in Abbotsford until 1942, when they moved to Stevens Point.

Mr. Blake has been employed by the Soo Line for the past 40 years and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel; one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Lois) Becker, Sioux City, Iowa; two sons, Dr. Bradley Blake, Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Tom, Hudson; nine grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Joyce) Lord, Tarzana, Calif., Mrs. Peter (Mildred) Valier, Las Vegas, and Mrs. Ted (Geraldine) Dlugolenski, Oshkosh.

One sister and one brother preceded Mr. Blake in death.
