Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Messer, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Loughead, Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Messer, Unity; and Mr. and Mrs. Milan Evers, Mercer, left early Tuesday for Benton Harbor, Michigan, to attend the funeral rites of their oldest brother, Lloyd Messer, 58, who died Saturday of a heart ailment.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Evenson, Unity, left Saturday for Benton Harbor.

Funeral services for Lloyd L. Messer, 58, were held Tuesday afternoon, November 1, at the Florin Funeral Home in Benton Harbor, Mich. The Rev. Stanley Buck, pastor of the Methodist Peace Temple, officiated, and burial was in the Crystal Springs Cemetery, in Benton Harbor.

Messer passed away of a heart attack on Saturday, October 29. He and his wife were on a week end trip through the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and he was stricken while driving near Attica, Indiana. He stopped the car and died instantly.

He was born in Phillips October 3, 1897, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Messer. The family lived in Prairie du Chein and Spencer before moving to Unity when he was about 12 years old. He graduated from the Unity High School in 1916 and later attended an engineering school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served with the Artillery in the 32nd Div. during World War I. After returning from overseas in 1919 he was editor of the Marathon County Register and Spencer Record. Later he published the Cloverland Press at Ewen, Mich., and on April 22, 1936, he was married at Ewen to Mrs. Duina Nash. In 1941, they moved to Benton Harbor and since has been employed by the Burch Printers as pressman.

Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Jack Holt and Mrs. Duane Carlson and one son, James Nash and six grandchildren, ? of St. Joseph, Mich.; two brothers, Alvah Messer, Spencer; Ansel Messer of Unity; three sisters, Mrs. Milan Evers, Mercer; Mrs. T. F. Loughead and Mrs. Martin Evenson of Unity.

The above named brothers and sisters from this vicinity attended the funeral.
