Krause, Mathilda (9 July 1862 - 28 Dec. 1943)

Mrs. Mathilda Krause, 81, whose home is at 201 South Oak Street, Neillsville, passed away at the Neillsville hospital on December 28, 1943, after an illness of one week. Death was due to old age complications. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 31, at 2 p.m. at the Jaster Funeral Home. The Rev. George W. Longenecker, pastor of the Congregational Church, was the officiating pastor, and burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The deceased was born Mathilda Schupe on July 9, 1862, in Fond du Lac County. When she was nine years of age, her parents, the late Elias and Mathilda Schupe, moved to Clark County, and she has resided here since that time. She was married to Gus Krause in 1902. For many years they lived west of Neillsville, in the house now known as the Indian School residence. When that place was sold to the school, Mr. and Mrs. Krause moved to the present home.

Mrs. Krause was truly a pioneer woman of this community. She was a good woman and a fine neighbor, and will be greatly missed by her small circle of close friends. Mr. Krause preceded his wife in death in August, 1938.

She is survived by one sister, Lill, Mrs. Ed. Hommel, Tacoma, Wash., and one brother, George Schupe, Castle Rock, Wash.

Pallbearers were Wayne Potter, George Tibbett, Leland Bandelow, Arthur Kunze, Otto Warren and George Prochazka.

Music at the funeral service consisted of a solo by Mrs. Marguerite Brown, accompanied by Mrs. Jess Scott.
