Asplin, Cordelia (17 Dec. 1857 - 2 Jan. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Cordelia Asplin, 86, a long resident of this community, were held January 5, at the Jaster Funeral Home and at the Methodist Church, the Rev. Floyd a Fahlgren, pastor of the church, conducting the services. The body was taken to Augusta for burial in the family lot beside her husband, who died in October. 1942. Mrs. Asplin passed away January 2, 1944, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude Mills in the town of York. The strain of the death of her son, the late Charles L. Asplin, and the slight exposure connected with attendance at his funeral on December 23, proved too much for one of her advanced years and frail health and on December 24 she became ill, passing away after a week’s illness.

Mrs. Asplin was born Cordelia Scott on December 17, 1857, at Tomah, Wis. In 1880, she was married at Augusta to Charles F. Asplin. They resided in Eau Claire County, until 1899 when the family moved to Clark County, where she had since made her home.

In her early youth, Mrs. Asplin became a Christian, and joined the Methodist Church. During all of her years since, she has been actively interested in the church and its work. In her youth she taught school six years in Eau Claire County.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Asplin. One child died in infancy, one son, Wallace, a veteran of World War I passed away in 1930, and the son, Charles L., in December, 1943. She is survived by five children: Mrs. Edith Pugh, Tacoma, Wash., Lottie, Mrs. Claude Mills, town of York; Clint of Marshfield; James of Owen; and Addie, Mrs. Cleve Evans, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are thirty grandchildren and twenty-one grandchildren. A brother, Walter Scott of the town of York, and a sister, Mrs. R. J. Lock, Kalamazoo, Mich., also survive.

Pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased, Calvin Mills, Lee Mills, Glen Mills, Orin Mills, Herbert Asplin and Craig Asplin.
