Becken, Percy (3 OCT 1921 - 4 FEB 1942)

Percy Becken, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Holver Becken, town of Green Grove, Wisconsin, died yesterday afternoon after he had accidentally discharged a .22 caliber rifle with which he was hunting.

The young man had been hunting in the woods near his home and when crossing a fence at the rear of the Miller school, his gun was accidentally discharged, the bullet passing through his face, killing him almost instantly. The accident was witnessed by the children of the Miller school, who at once ran to his aid. He died before others could reach him.

Becken, who had been recently employed in Chicago, had just come home for a short vacation, and while his parents were in Curtiss shopping, took time for a short hunting trip in the woods near his home. His sister, Joyce, 17, was seriously wounded early last fall from a gun shot from the same gun, when she reached in a dark closet for some clothes, and the gun which was loaded accidentally discharged, the bullet entering her face and passing through into her neck, where it still remains. She was cared for at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital for several weeks and still is not in perfect health.

Besides his parents he leaves to mourn one bother, Holver Jr., and six sisters, Gloria, Langra, Joyce, Jocinta, June and Darleen. Funeral services have not been arranged at this writing.
