Elson, Wayne (1923? - 12 DEC 1941)

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the home of his parents and from the Finnish Lutheran church for Wayne Elson, age 18, fatally injured Friday evening, shortly before 7:00 o’clock when he fell four flights down a freight elevator shaft at the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company plant, where he was employed part-time while a freshman student at the teachers college. The services which were attended by many were conducted by the Rev. Kukkonen, with interment in the Fairview cemetery.

A brief memorial service for the youth was held at the men’s gym at the Teachers college Saturday evening, during the half time period of the basketball game. Following an announcement of his activities as a student, in which mention was made of his membership in the school band and as a member of the DeKalb Civic Orchestra, the college band played Alma Mater, while the basketball crowd stood in silent tribute to the youth. -- DeKalb Chronicle.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kivikko Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. William Kivikko motored to DeKalb, Ill., Sunday to attend the funeral of their nephew, Wayne Elson.
