COLBY, WIS. -- Helen Martha Farning, 88, of Colby, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Memorial Nursing Home, Medford.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, Wis. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, town of Frankfort, Marathon County.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Helen was born Nov. 6, 1918, in the town of Frankfort to Fred and Mary (Prochaska) Giese. Helen and Henry "Irish" Farning were married Jan. 11, 1936. He died Oct. 23, 2002. They farmed in Marathon County, moving to Abbotsford in 1950 and to Colby in 1974. She played concertina for small local activities from 1936 to 1976.

Helen is survived by her children, Donald (Mary) Farning of Medford and Shirley (Lee) Crook of Chippewa Falls; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frieda (Harold) Podevels of Colby, and Edna Hohndorf of Wauwatosa.
