Melander, Gust (17 Mar. 1872 - 20 July 1950)

Gust Melander of the town of Brighton died at Wausau, Wisconsin hospital Thursday afternoon at 2:40 o’clock, after a week’s treatment at the hospital, at the age of 78 years. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran church at Unity and internment was made in the parish cemetery, Rev. Larson of Wisconsin Rapids officiating. Pall bearers were Dr. H. H. Christofferson, Dr. W. W. Payne, Carl Holtzhausen, Frank Goeltz, Sr., H. C. Klessig and R. H. Markus.

Mr. Melander was born March 17, 1872, in Sweden and emigrated at the age of 29 years to the United States, settling in Chicago. He went to Unity in 1907 and farmed in the town of Unity, Clark county. He lived there until he retired seven years ago and made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Melander, town of Brighton. In October, 1905, he was married in Chicago to Hannah Anderson, who died in November, 1936.

The deceased was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church of Unity and the Masonic lodge of Colby, Wis. He was a man who always endeavored to perform his duties honestly and well, and, as he was a man of congenial and friendly disposition, will be missed by his relatives and friends.

Surviving are a son, Edward Melander of Town of Brighton; two sisters, Mrs. Albert Johnson and Mrs. Gust Rudberg of Unity; a brother, Axel Melander of Chicago; two brothers and three sisters in Sweden and two grand children.
